William (Bill) Dylewski passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2024 after living a life of 80 years. Born in Mineola, New York, he was not a top student, but played basketball at Hicksville High School, then worked hard mowing lawns and shoveling snow to earn enough money to buy his first car, a 1958 MG. He signed up to join the Navy soon after graduating high school. Bill served as a radio repair technician on the USS Ogden, Oriskany and Sperry until 1970, including a deployment to Vietnam.
After leaving the Navy, Bill lived in San Diego where he met his wife Gloria. He was enamored with the weather there and said ‘why would I shovel snow again’? His career revolved around finance and real estate, where he served for a short time as a loan agent and stock broker, but eventually found his true calling as a real estate appraiser. It was through work that he formed some lasting friendships.
In 2005, William experienced the profound loss of Gloria, his wife of 34 years.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed songs from the 1950s and shared his playlists with friends and family. He had a passion for following finance and stocks, and he also cherished the comfort of his home and TV, watching financial stations during the day and movies at night.
He is survived by his two sons, Eric and Scott, and 3 grandsons, Ethan, Franklin, and Maxwell.
A celebration of William’s life will be held on January 20, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gloria Ann Dylewski Memorial Scholarship at SDSU.
